There are many types of biomes, the main biomes include: marine, forest, deciduous forest, desert, taiga, tundra and grasslands.
Deciduous forests biomes are really important because they are a home to many wildlife species who rely on the food and shelter of this biome. They are also a very beautiful place for us human beings because they give us a place to enjoy the outdoors in there forests.
What does deciduous mean?
The term deciduous relates to a pants ability to loose its leaves when times get rough. For example deciduous trees loose there leaves in autumn to better prepare themselves for winter when the weather gets harsh and there is less daylight.
What is unique about this biome?
· Deciduous forest produces lots of fruits and vegetables.
· Most humans live in the temperate deciduous forest biome
· We need deciduous forests to survive
· The deciduous forests change with the seasons
Where can this biome be found?
Deciduous forest can be found in the eastern half of North America, middle of Europe, Asia, Japan, eastern China, South America, New Zealand and south eastern Australia.
Temperature
The average temperature in a deciduous forest annually is 50 degrees Fahrenheit or 10 degrees Celsius.
Layers of plants in the deciduous biome
1st layer (canopy): filled with tall deciduous trees. the canopy is quite and thick but does allow some sunlight to reach the floor.
2nd layer: this is where saplings and shorter trees are.
3rd layer: this is where the shrubs are.
4th layer: this is where the forest wild flowers and berries are.
5th layer: this is where mosses and lichens grow on tree trunks.
Climate and Weather
The deciduous forest biome has four distinct seasons; spring, summer, autumn winter. Summer usually begins in early June and ends in late August, with temperatures averaging about 70 degrees F. Winter is fairly cool with an average temperature a little below freezing, winter begins in December. The deciduous forest can have almost 14 inches of rain in winter and more than 18 inches in the summer.
What affects the weather
The wind and oceans play a big factor on why the climate and temperatures change so much in the deciduous biome.
